Carolyn Carleton Browe has been handweaving rugs and carpets for the interior design trade for 37 years. She and her sister taught themselves spinning, dyeing, and weaving with the wool from her father's sheep on the family's 8th generation farm in Connecticut. She studied natural and chemical dyeing and weaving in the San Francisco Bay Area and in 1980, her rug weaving studio, Carleton Designs, was launched with her late husband Vincent Carleton. Her rugs are represented by interior design showrooms in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago.
In the past 5 years, Carolyn has been exploring floor-covering designs in wool felt as well as creating wool felt boxes and bowls. During American Craft Week Carolyn will be assembling and stitching her lidded square, round, and oval boxes at the gallery Saturday, October 7th 1:00 pm.
